Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news of Chris Smalling becoming the latest player to open talks with the club over a new contract, as reported by Sky Sports.
The defender, who arrived at Old Trafford from Fulham back in 2010, has made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils and any new deal will see him be due a testimonial having served over 10 years.
Despite his lengthy spell in Manchester, where he has won two Premier League titles, the 29-year-old is failing to convince supporters with his sub-par performances at the moment.
Fans are not happy that the former Maidstone defender is being rewarded for such poor performances with a new deal, with the majority hoping to see deadwood such as Smalling shifted on in place of fresh arrivals.
As a result, the Old Trafford faithful have taken to Twitter to voice their opinions; as you’d expect, they aren’t particularly full of delight…
