It seemed as though Jack Wilshere was finally putting his injury woes behind him due to a relatively unscathed loan spell at Bournemouth, but he has reportedly suffered a damaging blow.
A CT scan has revealed that Wilshere, who is on loan from Arsenal, has broken his leg, which will rule him out of the rest of the season and possibly the start of the next, The Mirror reports.
The publication claims that the midfielder has a crack in his left fibula, and it was only detected in a second scan.
Initially, the problem did not seem to be as serious after he hurt his ankle in a tackle with Harry Kane during last Saturday’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
As it stands, there is no timeline for his recovery, but the injury is similar to the issue that kept him on the sidelines for the majority of Arsenal’s 2015-16 campaign.
The 25-year-old has been plagued by injury problems throughout his senior career, and this latest setback could potentially affect his future, with his position at Arsenal still uncertain.
This season, Wilshere has made 27 appearances in the Premier League for Eddie Howe’s team, starting 22 of them.
After the news emerged, football fans from various clubs tweeted their thoughts, with some mocking the midfielder’s situation.
