Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after Football Insider revealed that Tottenham are now looking to sell Kyle Walker-Peters rather than loan him out, and have slapped a £15m price tag on his head.
The 22-year-old has found chances hard to come by under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho this season, making just five starts in total across all competitions – three in the Premier League, one in the Champions League and one in the Carabao Cup.
The Telegraph reported that the right-back was ‘hoping’ to join Crystal Palace on loan recently when writing a piece about Spurs’ new signing Gedson Fernandes, while Roy Hodgson himself then sounded ‘downbeat’ over any potential deal according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.
The south Londoners are in need of a new right-back, as Joel Ward is Hodgson’s only natural option in the role – Martin Kelly, who is visibly more comfortable at centre-back, has deputised at times this season.
Southampton are also keen on Walker-Peters, and Football Insider state that discussions are ongoing between the England U21 international and the Saints, while Palace are also still in talks – however, it remains to be seen if either side cough up the asking price.
Let’s see what the Palace fans on Twitter have been saying…
To begin the discussion, these two Palace fans both mentioned West Brom full-back Nathan Ferguson – who has been linked with a move to the Eagles.
Andy said that he’s “sure we’d be able to get Ferguson for that or probably less” whereas ‘General Tomkins’ remembered that the Baggies youngster’s contract expires in the summer, before suggesting that Palace get him on a free instead.
Elsewhere, Richie and Ben didn’t hesitate in saying that the south Londoners should meet Tottenham’s asking price.
Richie simply said “pay the money” whereas Ben ordered Palace to “pay it” – it seems as if this pair are keen to get Walker-Peters to Selhurst Park.
Lastly, and in contrast to Richie and Ben, these two Palace fans scoffed at Spurs’ asking price.
Call yourself a Premier League expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
David asked if the north Londoners were “having a laugh” and asked “on what basis” can they charge a £15m fee, whereas Samuel said that he definitely wouldn’t pay £15m “yet”.
In other news, this report states that Crystal Palace were snubbed by a transfer target in preference of another Premier League side…
