Sunderland weren’t at their bubbly best on Saturday afternoon but they were able to come through their clash against Oxford United with all three points.
A 1-0 win over their weekend’s opponents led to a seventh win in nine games as Phil Parkinson’s men continued on their merry way towards possible promotion.
The goal came after just three minutes as Jordan Willis’ glanced header appeared to come off United defender John Mousinho who diverted the ball into his own net.
However, it was a contentious moment with the Sunderland Twitter account doing their utmost to ensure it went down as Willis’ strike.
Taking to Instagram after the game, midfielder George Dobson teased Willis as he issued a one-word response to his post: ‘Goal?’
Willis then responded by sarcastically claiming Dobson was a funny guy in what was a rather comical exchange between the two teammates.
The central defender has only ever netted nine times in his entire senior career – a period that spans close to 250 matches.
