In The Athletic’s latest ‘U Irons’ podcast (March 3) about West Ham United, their Irons correspondent Roshane Thomas has provided his backing for manager David Moyes.
What did he say?
Well, the east London outfit produced their second successive impressive Premier League display as they beat Southampton 3-1 at the London Stadium on Saturday, and Thomas was keen to talk about Moyes in the aftermath of the encounter and what was a crucial three points.
He told U Irons (March 3, 29:25): “After the Man City game you actually asked me ‘can Moyes turn it around and is he still the right guy for West Ham?’ I was like ‘keep the faith, Moyes can do it’ and that’s for the simple reason why because we mentioned Paul [Devlin] and Kevin [Nolan].
“I also feel like because Moyes was out of work for so long before coming back to West Ham, he has a point to prove.”
Having spoken about the Scot’s spells with Manchester United, Sunderland and Real Sociedad, Thomas added: “This is pretty much the last chance for David Moyes.”
Will Moyes last beyond the season?
The last time the former Everton chief took charge of West Ham during the 2017/18 season, he was gone by the end of the campaign.
Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….
Having signed an 18-month contract back at the end of December, it will certainly be interesting to see whether he lasts until the climax of the 2020/21 term this time around.
The signs certainly weren’t great before the previous couple of weeks, and he has just two wins and six defeats in 10 matches in charge in all competitions to date – form that left the Hammers in the Premier League relegation zone.

That said, the previous two displays against Liverpool and Southampton have been much, much better, and if they can replicate those performances between now and the end of the season they will stay up with ease.
If they secure their top-flight status but showings and results aren’t great, then there has to be questions marks over the 56-year-old’s future again.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes simply must solve the problem position plaguing him and the team…
